Trimming
1. The edges have been pre-trimmed at the factory. 2. When trimming, trim edges with a VERY sharp razor blade. Change your blade often.
Booking
Be sure to book the wallcovering loosely to avoid creasing or splitting of the wood veneer. DO NOT FOLD this wallcovering while pasting or booking, as its susceptible to potential wrinkling and creasing. When booking, leave booked ends well rounded.
Adhesive
1. We recommend using a clear, heavy duty, pre-mixed vinyl adhesive, or clay adhesive where available. 2. Before applying adhesive, we have found it is helpful to slightly moisten the front and back of the material with a damp cloth. Please be sure not to fully saturate the product. Dampening the wallcovering aids in ensuring the product lays flat and adheres to the wall properly. 3. Apply the paste to the back of the paper, which will become flexible and easy to hang. Allow the paste to become tacky prior to hanging (exact time will vary based on temperature, humidity, etc.). 4. Paste one piece at a time. 5. DO NOT get paste on the face of the wallcovering. If paste does accidentally get on the face of the wallcovering, blot off excess paste immediately with a soft, moist rag and dry with a dry towel. Do not scrub or rub. When wiping this material, there will be a slight residue of the finish that will come off. Therefore, minimal wiping is suggested so the finish of the wallcovering is not altered.
Building & Material Conditions
The building must be weather-tight with HVAC settings (including pressure, temperature and relative humidity) the same as those of an occupied building for three days prior to, throughout installation and three days after installation. The walls must be structurally sound including elimination of sources of moisture accumulation into the wall or wall cavity. The wallcovering must be in a clean and dry condition and must be stored at normal occupied building temperature and humidity for at least three days prior to installation. All adhesives and primers must be new, good quality, commercial grade materials, which have not been contaminated.
Pattern Placement / Matching
1. Once wall height is determined, trim the height of the pattern to fit the wall. We recommend consulting with the Interior Designer for design placement of the pattern. 2. Modern Muse is promoted as a straight match, but a reverse match is another option with a slightly more randomized effect. The decision to hang straight or reversed should be discussed with the client and agreed upon prior to installation, as each option has a distinct look. (See Diagrams below). 3. Seams should be butted together and can be hung straight or reversed. 4. Please note that as this is a hand-laid mosaic, there may be slight mismatches in pattern at the seams, this is not considered a defect. Ensure the pattern is matched at eye level.
Preparation
Before you cut and hang, please be sure you have: 1. The correct wallcovering and the correct amount of wallcovering to finish the job. 2. Inspect the wallcovering carefully to ensure it is free of defects: If no defect is evident before installation, the material should be inspected after three (3) strips are installed. If any defect is evident at this time (or at any point in the installation) no additional material should be hung until Phillip Jeffries is notified. NO CLAIMS WILL BE ALLOWED FOR MORE THAN (3) STRIPS ON THE WALL. All claims must be made within 30 days of the invoice date. No labor claims will be allowed at any time.
Tips
1. This is a special natural wood product and special care should be taken when installing. DO NOT allow paste or excessive water to stain the front of the wallcovering. Both paste and excessive water will change the color of the wood veneer on the face of the paper. 2. Due to the fine details of this pattern, this material is not recommended to wrap around corners. 3. We suggest using a template or pre-cut the material for corners, ceiling, baseboards, door frames etc. However, we leave this to the wallpaper installers discretion. Trim edges with a VERY sharp razor blade. Change your blades often. 4. Perfect seams and shading cannot be guaranteed. If seams are prominent, they should be worked into architectural treatment. Visually matching each panel will reduce and control this condition. Vertical joints should not occur less than 6” from the outside and inside corners. 5. Gently smooth the wallcovering using a soft brush or cloth. Do not use a seam roller. 6. When unpacking material, you may see it does not lay flat. DO NOT BACK ROLL the material, as it will relax once pasted. 7. Wallcoverings may be cleaned using a soft brush attachment of a vacuum cleaner.
Wall Preparation
1. The walls to be covered must be properly prepared to ensure that the wallpaper will adhere to the wall surface. Even the strongest adhesive can only work when the wall surface is clean and properly prepared. 2. Phillip Jeffries recommends that installers use a hard, acrylic, pigmented, wall-protecting primer that is SPECIFICALLY made for WALLCOVERING INSTALLATION and WALL PROTECTION. DO NOT USE R-35. 3. Allow the primer to dry thoroughly before hanging.
